A fresh legal battle is brewing in Badagry following a disclaimer published against Mr. Olufemi Sewanu Iroko, a risk management expert and well-known social activist, Badagry Today has exclusively learned
In a letter seen by Badagry Today, Mr. Iroko, through his lawyer, Opeyemi Olabinjo Esq., issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Pohento Meda family of Ajara-Isalu, demanding an immediate retraction and public apology over what he described as “malicious and false publications” circulated on September 2, 2025.
The publication in question — a disclaimer letter signed by Mr. E.P. Iroko and referenced 01/009/25 — claimed that “The Iroko family disowns Olufemi Sewanu Iroko,” branding him an “impostor” and accusing him of seeking “cheap political popularity.” The disclaimer was addressed to De VOICE Newspaper and later shared across social media and blogs, sparking heated debate within the Badagry community.
In a strongly worded letter dated September 5, 2025, Olabinjo insisted the publication had caused “severe damage” to his client’s reputation, integrity, and safety. He argued that Olufemi Iroko, a descendant of the Depekoh Quarters in Ajara-Isalu, is widely recognized for his advocacy, community service, and professional achievements.
The letter demanded:
Immediate withdrawal of the publication across all platforms.
Cessation of further sharing of the defamatory material.
Public apology in two national dailies and a formal retraction.
Guarantee of safety for Mr. Iroko, his family, and his businesses.
Reimbursement of legal costs.
Failure to comply within seven days, the lawyer warned, would result in a ₦200 million libel suit at the High Court of Lagos State, alongside requests for injunctions and restraining orders.

While the Pohento Meda quarters openly disowned Olufemi Iroko, the Toyi and Kuawonnu family of Depekoh Compound — another lineage in Ajara-Isalu — has stepped forward to validate his identity.
A letter of identification and recommendation obtained exclusively by Badagry Today and signed by Hon. (Elder) Joseph D. Toyi, the family head, confirms Iroko’s Ajara-Isalu roots, stating that he was “born in Depekoh Compound” with verifiable paternal and maternal lineage. The family praised his contributions and described him as a respected son of the soil.
As both sides dig in, community observers fear the dispute could further polarize families in Ajara-Isalu and escalate into a drawn-out legal tussle. For now, all eyes are on whether the Pohento Meda family will retract its statement before the seven-day deadline lapses.
