Badagry LCDA Chairman Backs 2027 Governorship Push

Chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, has openly declared his support for the ongoing campaign to produce a Lagos State governor from Badagry come 2027.

Hon. Yemaren made this known on Wednesday while receiving Prof. Paul-Sewa Thovoethin, a Professor of Political Science at Lagos State University and Convener of the Badagry for Governor Agenda, during a courtesy visit to the council secretariat in Kankon.

Prof. Thovoethin, who is on a grassroots consultation tour across the Badagry Division, explained that previous efforts failed due to poor coordination. According to him, the 2027 push is different because it is anchored on early engagement and a well-structured strategy.

“We have every political reason and right to push this. This time, we are strategic and starting from the grassroots with council chairmen, traditional rulers, and opinion leaders,” he said.

He further praised the ambition of Hon. Samuel Ajose, noting that his entry into the race has given the campaign new momentum. “Before SMA came on board, we had our proposals. His emergence has further energised the process,” Thovoethin remarked.

Responding, Hon. Yemaren described the initiative as timely and long overdue. “If this works out, it’ll be a huge blessing. Badagry has been sidelined for too long. We must stay focused, support one another, and ensure our strategy is solid,” he stated.

The meeting formed part of ongoing consultations aimed at uniting stakeholders across Badagry’s political structure in preparation for the 2027 elections.
