The Depekoh Youth Movement of Ajara-Isalu, a community in Badagry has thrown its weight behind social critic, Olufemi Sewanu Iroko, following a controversial disclaimer issued against him by the Iroko Family of Pohento Meda Quarters.
In a strongly worded statement dated September 8, 2025, and signed by its chairman, Mr. Dagebo E. Toyi, the youth body condemned the earlier publication released on September 2, 2025, which disowned Mr. Iroko and labeled him an “imposter.” The disclaimer — signed by Mr. E.P. Iroko and addressed to De VOICE Newspaper — had accused Olufemi of chasing “cheap political popularity” and warned that his actions could damage the family’s reputation.
Describing the allegations as “baseless, malicious, and divisive,” the youth movement reaffirmed that Olufemi remains a bonafide son of the Depekoh Quarters in Isalu, Ajara-Badagry. The group stressed that his family roots are “well established and beyond dispute,” while praising his active role in community development and youth empowerment.
They also pointed to the longstanding contributions of Olufemi’s father, a respected elder and coordinator within the Depekoh Youth Movement, as further evidence of the family’s deep ties to the community.
“The reckless and unfounded claims in that publication are a direct attack on the values of unity, peace, and mutual respect that Ajara Isalu stands for,” the statement read.
The group demanded a full retraction and public apology from the Pohento Meda Iroko Family within 14 days, warning that failure to comply would leave them with no choice but to seek legal redress for defamation and damages.
They urged the public to disregard the controversial disclaimer and reaffirmed their “unwavering support” for Olufemi Sewanu Iroko as a “true son of Depekoh, a brother, and a proud representative of Ajara heritage.”
