Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of Professor Badejo Ayodeji Olawunmi, formerly known as Faaji, as the new Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU.Professor Olawunmi, a Professor of Guidance and Counselling, is expected to take over the leadership of the institution at the expiration of the five year tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibijoke Olatunji-Bello, who will retire from office.
Born on August 4, 1962, Professor Olawunmi is an accomplished academic with extensive experience in the field of Guidance and Counselling. She obtained both her Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos.
Her appointment places her at the helm of affairs of one of Nigeria’s leading state owned universities, with responsibility for steering the institution’s academic and administrative development.
The appointment will officially take effect upon the expiration of Professor Olatunji-Bello’s tenure.
Professor Olatunji-Bello became the first female Vice Chancellor of LASU and has served the university for five years, overseeing the institution during a period of significant academic and institutional activities.
With the appointment of Professor Olawunmi, attention will now shift to the incoming Vice Chancellor as she prepares to assume office and continue the university’s drive for academic excellence, institutional growth and improved standards.
