A strong wave of political solidarity swept across Badagry on Tuesday as women leaders of the All Progressives Congress gathered in large numbers to endorse the party’s Deputy Governorship candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, with the wife of the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Mrs. Folashade Kofoworola Ajose, describing her emergence as a historic honour and a turning point in the political history of Badagry.

Speaking at a grand endorsement and solidarity gathering held at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat, Mrs. Ajose said the nomination of Princess Damilola Sonayon-James represents a long-awaited recognition for the ancient kingdom and a bold response to decades of political marginalisation experienced by the people of Badagry.

She called on party members and residents across the Badagry Federation to rally behind the APC and intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the historic opportunity must be rewarded with overwhelming electoral support for the ruling party.

According to her, the selection of an Ogu daughter and indigene of Badagry as Deputy Governorship candidate is unprecedented in Lagos State and has brought pride, hope and renewed political relevance to the area.

Mrs. Ajose expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what she described as a courageous and inclusive decision, while also commending First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her consistent advocacy for greater participation of women in governance and leadership.

The event, championed by Mrs. Arinola Sunny Ajose, wife of the late APC chieftain Chief Akinsanya Sunny Ajose, drew APC women leaders, support groups and party faithful from Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA and Badagry West LCDA.

In her remarks, the wife of the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Mrs. Elizabeth Oluwatoyin Hunpe, described the nomination as a major political breakthrough for Badagry and urged residents to support Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, APC Governorship candidate Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, President Tinubu and all APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

She also praised the three council chairmen for their support and lauded Mrs. Arinola Ajose for spearheading the solidarity programme.

Delivering an emotional address, Mrs. Arinola Ajose described the development as the fulfilment of a dream long championed by her late husband, Chief Akinsanya Sunny Ajose, a respected APC leader and member of the Governance Advisory Council.

She recalled how the late political icon consistently advocated for greater political recognition for Badagry and expressed confidence that he would have been proud to witness the emergence of Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as Deputy Governorship candidate.

Mrs. Ajose also acknowledged the role played by Dr. Samuel Mawuyon Ajose, noting that his recent governorship aspiration further strengthened the argument for the inclusion of Badagry in top political positions in Lagos State.

Calling for unity and sustained support, she urged women across the federation to continue praying for Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, the success of the APC in 2027 and the continued progress of Badagry.

Also speaking, Mrs. Mariam Yemaren, wife of the Executive Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, described the nomination as a source of immense pride for the people of Badagry and called on residents to unite behind the APC in the forthcoming elections.

Mrs. Bukola Bamgbose, wife of a prominent APC leader in Badagry West, equally appealed for prayers, unity and unwavering support for Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, President Tinubu and all APC candidates, saying the time had come for Badagry to demonstrate its appreciation for the confidence reposed in the area by the party leadership.

The programme ended with a unanimous endorsement of Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates expected to contest the 2027 general elections, as participants pledged to work tirelessly to secure a resounding victory for the APC across Badagry and Lagos State.
