The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bonu Solomon Saanu, has unveiled branded campaign vehicles for the newly launched Starboy Movement and led its first door-to-door campaign in Badagry to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State governorship candidate Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and other All Progressives Congress candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The campaign kicked off on Saturday following the launch of the youth-driven movement at an open ground opposite the French Language Village in Ajara, Badagry, where Bonu presented a fleet of branded cars and buses to facilitate grassroots mobilisation across communities in the area.
The Starboy Movement is expected to campaign for Tinubu's re-election, Hamzat's governorship bid and his running mate, Princess Damilola Sonayon James, as well as Lagos West Senatorial District candidate Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule and other APC candidates contesting elective positions in Badagry.
Addressing party supporters and youths at the launch, Bonu pledged to continue supporting and funding the movement, disclosing that more branded vehicles would be deployed as the campaign gathers momentum.
He urged youths to put their grievances over the outcome of the APC primary elections behind them and focus on the party's success in 2027. He appealed to them to respect the party's decisions and work collectively towards securing victory for its candidates.
The lawmaker assured his supporters that his commitment to the development of Badagry would remain unchanged despite not emerging as a candidate in the primaries.
Describing Hamzat as his political mentor, Bonu expressed confidence that Badagry would benefit significantly if he becomes governor, particularly with Princess Damilola Sonayon James, whom he described as an illustrious daughter of the area, as his deputy.
He also called on the youths to educate residents on the policies and achievements of Tinubu's administration, with particular emphasis on its economic reforms and infrastructure development.
Bonu highlighted the proposed Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway as a major infrastructure project with the potential to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities in Badagry. He also cited projects and interventions under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, including the recently completed housing estate near the meeting venue, various road projects and the restoration of electricity in Badagry West Local Council Development Area.
The lawmaker identified the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, which he said was championed in Badagry by his political leader and Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Layode, and the City Boy Movement, championed by the member representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, as existing APC mobilisation platforms in the area.
He called for cooperation among the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, the City Boy Movement and the newly established Starboy Movement, stressing that the party needed a united front to secure victory for all its candidates in Badagry.
Following the launch, Bonu led members of the Starboy Movement in its maiden house-to-house campaign through Ganyingbo and Aklakumo communities, where they visited residents and canvassed support for Tinubu, Hamzat and other APC candidates.
Those listed among the candidates the group campaigned for included Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Hon. Onilude Segun Adeniran, Hon. Gbenu Henugbe Joseph, the APC candidate for Badagry Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, and Hon. Olatunde Oladunjoye Yusuf, the party's candidate for Badagry Constituency II.
As part of the grassroots outreach, Bonu distributed packaged food palliatives to indigent residents and elderly people. He also personally joined members of the movement in pasting campaign posters and distributing customised T-shirts and caps to residents while urging them to support the APC in the forthcoming elections.
Some youths who spoke at the event expressed confidence in Bonu's leadership and pledged to support the party in line with his appeal. Although some voiced disappointment over the outcome of the APC primaries, they said they were prepared to set their grievances aside and work towards the party's success.
The launch of the Starboy Movement and its maiden door-to-door campaign mark the beginning of Bonu's latest grassroots mobilisation effort in Badagry ahead of the 2027 general elections.
