Residents of Badagry Local Government will now face stricter security measures following a series of directives introduced by the council aimed at preventing criminal activities and strengthening public safety across the area.

The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has approved the restriction of commercial motorcycle operations within the council area to between 5:00am and 10:00pm daily as part of efforts to enhance security and protect lives and property.

Under the new directives, all motorcycle riders, popularly known as okada operators, are also mandated to wear identifiable jackets while carrying out their operations. The measure is expected to make it easier for security agencies and residents to identify legitimate operators and curb the activities of criminal elements who often disguise themselves as commercial riders.

The council also announced a restriction on the activities of bowlers and related operators, limiting their operations to between 6:00am and 6:00pm.

In a move that is expected to affect the entertainment and social scene within the locality, the local government has further banned night parties beyond 7:00pm. The decision, according to sources within the council, is aimed at preventing gatherings that could provide cover for criminal activities and compromise public safety.

A source familiar with the development disclosed that although Badagry remains one of the relatively peaceful areas in Lagos State, the local government considers it necessary to take proactive measures in view of the growing security concerns being reported in different parts of the country.

"The council is not waiting for security challenges to escalate before taking action. These measures are preventive and are designed to ensure that Badagry remains safe for residents, visitors and businesses," the source said.

The latest directives are part of a broader strategy by the local government administration to strengthen security architecture, support law enforcement agencies and maintain law and order across communities within the council area.

Residents are expected to comply fully with the new regulations as security agencies and relevant authorities have been directed to ensure strict enforcement.

The development has already generated discussions among residents, transport operators and event organisers, with many expressing hope that the measures will help preserve the peace and security for which Badagry is widely known.
