Hundeyin, who is also a member of the council’s Communication and Information Directorate supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Hamzat, made the remarks in a statement made available to Badagry Today over the weekend.
He expressed confidence that Hamzat’s years of experience in government, including his tenure as Deputy Governor since 2019 and his previous service as Commissioner for Science and Technology and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, had provided him with valuable insights into the administration of Lagos State.
According to Hundeyin, Lagosians should expect a comprehensive development agenda from Hamzat as he prepares to unveil his manifesto, titled The Lagos Promise (Ileri Eko), on October 30.
He said the manifesto would outline the governorship candidate’s vision and policy direction, drawing on his experience across different sectors of government and his understanding of the challenges facing Africa’s most populous city and one of its leading economic centres.
Hundeyin argued that Hamzat’s experience as a serving Deputy Governor gives him an understanding of the state’s administrative structure, development priorities and governance challenges that could inform his approach if elected governor in 2027.
He also urged Lagosians to pay attention to the policies and proposals contained in the forthcoming manifesto, saying the document would provide an opportunity to assess the candidate’s plans for the state’s future.
The APC campaign council member further cautioned against what he described as attempts to turn Lagos State into a testing ground for inexperienced leadership.
“Lagos cannot be made a leadership laboratory for inexperienced leaders,” Hundeyin said, urging residents to focus on the experience, policy proposals and development plans presented by the candidates seeking to lead the state.
Hamzat’s career spans both the public and private sectors. He served as Commissioner for Science and Technology from 2005 to 2011 and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure from 2011 to 2015 before becoming Deputy Governor in 2019.
He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Ibadan, obtained in 1986 and 1988 respectively, as well as a PhD in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom, which he obtained in 1992.
His professional experience also includes work with organisations such as RTP Consulting Services, Columbia University, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, as well as service as Chief Information Officer and Group Head of IT Strategy at Oando Plc.
With the October 30 manifesto unveiling approaching, Hundeyin said the campaign expected Hamzat’s development proposals to reflect his years of experience in governance, technology, infrastructure and private-sector management.
The manifesto is expected to provide further details of the candidate’s priorities as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
