Hamzat Poised to Take Lagos Higher, Says Obasa After Strategic Consultations

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has thrown his weight behind the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, declaring him well-positioned to lead the state to greater heights ahead of the next governorship race.

Obasa made this known following a high-level meeting with Hamzat at his residence in GRA, Ikeja, describing their engagement as frank, strategic and focused on the future of Lagos State. The meeting is part of Hamzat’s ongoing consultations with key leaders and stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress.

Taking to his official Facebook page, the Speaker revealed that discussions with the Deputy Governor revolved around sustaining the developmental strides of the state while ensuring continuity in governance. He noted that recent political signals, including developments from Abuja, point to a growing consensus around Hamzat’s candidacy.

“Having just returned from Abuja, I can confidently say that the momentum is clear and the message is consistent — Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat is well-positioned to lead Lagos to greater heights,” Obasa stated.

He further pledged to mobilise his political structure and collaborate with other party leaders to secure victory at the polls, stressing that Lagos requires stability, continuity and sustained progress.

Hamzat’s rising political profile comes amid reports of an endorsement from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, widely regarded as a central figure in Lagos political succession dynamics. Though not officially confirmed, the reported backing has significantly strengthened Hamzat’s position within party ranks.

In recent weeks, the Deputy Governor has intensified consultations across the state, engaging influential blocs including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), a critical decision-making body within the party’s structure in Lagos.

His visit to Obasa, a long-time ally of the President and one of the most influential political figures in the state, is seen by observers as a strategic move to consolidate support ahead of the party’s eventual decision on its governorship flagbearer.

With political alignments gradually taking shape, insiders say the coming months will be decisive as aspirants continue consultations and party stakeholders weigh their options.

For now, Obasa’s endorsement adds significant momentum to Hamzat’s growing support base, reinforcing the narrative of continuity within Lagos’ political landscape.
