A coalition of progressive and forward-thinking youths in Badagry West Local Council Development Area has thrown its weight behind Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, endorsing him as the continuity candidate for Badagry Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
In a press statement issued on April 23, 2026, the youth bloc, made up of community youth associations, student bodies, professionals, artisans and social-political groups, said the decision followed wide consultations and a careful review of the lawmaker’s performance since assuming office.
The group stressed that its endorsement was not driven by personal relationships but by what it described as “clear evidence of impactful representation and measurable development outcomes.” According to the youths, their position reflects a growing political awareness among young people in Badagry who are increasingly focused on results-driven leadership rather than empty rhetoric.
They described Hon. Bonu as a disciplined and visionary leader whose approach to governance has remained people-centred, accessible and responsive. The statement noted that his conduct in office has been free of controversies, adding that his personality and leadership style have earned him credibility across the constituency.
Highlighting reasons for their endorsement, the youths argued that continuity in leadership remains critical to sustaining and expanding the developmental gains already recorded in Badagry West. They warned against any disruption that could reverse progress, insisting that governance should be a steady process built on existing achievements.
The group pointed to several key interventions credited to the lawmaker within his first three years in office. These include his active role in legislative duties, particularly as Chairman of the House Committee on Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as his contributions to education as a member of the education committee.
They also cited investments in human capital development through bursaries, scholarships, youth empowerment programmes and support initiatives for graduates and corps members. According to the statement, Bonu has facilitated employment opportunities for constituents while encouraging youth participation in politics.
In the area of infrastructure and energy, the youths referenced electrification projects in underserved communities, rehabilitation of power facilities along major corridors such as Gbaji-Seme and Owode-Apa, and the installation of over 30 transformers across the constituency. Rural road improvements and better connectivity were also listed among his achievements.
On culture and tourism, the group commended efforts to promote Badagry’s heritage, including support for initiatives like the Door of Return Festival, which they said has strengthened the area’s cultural identity and economic potential.
The youths concluded that Hon. Bonu represents stability, tested leadership and a clear development-focused agenda. They called on community leaders, stakeholders and residents of Badagry West to support his continued representation in the interest of sustained growth and progress.
“This is a defining moment for our constituency,” the statement read. “We must choose consolidation over disruption and progress over uncertainty.”
