A public affairs commentary has commended the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, for what it described as proactive leadership and sustained grassroots impact through the ongoing Renewed Hope ₦100,000 Cash Empowerment Programme.
In the opinion piece marking the fifth edition of the initiative, the writer, Evang. Reuben Omotayo Hopo, praised Hunpe as a “worthy executive chairman who has not gone to bed to sleep,” noting that his administration has remained responsive to the needs of residents amid prevailing economic challenges.
The article situates the programme within the broader economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, acknowledging that while current policies may pose short-term difficulties, they are aimed at laying a solid foundation for long-term national prosperity. It added that governments at all levels must align with federal efforts by delivering tangible relief to citizens.
Highlighting Badagry as a case study, the writer pointed to the monthly cash empowerment scheme initiated by Hunpe in November 2025, which provides ₦100,000 to 200 beneficiaries across the council’s ten wards. The programme is designed to run for 20 months, targeting 4,000 residents, particularly small business owners and vulnerable groups.
According to the commentary, the initiative is intended to support household businesses, stimulate the informal sector and strengthen the local economy. It stressed that the grants are not meant for short-term consumption but as a means to build sustainable livelihoods and expand economic opportunities within the community.
With the fifth phase completed, the programme has so far reached 1,000 beneficiaries within its first five months, a milestone the writer described as evidence of consistency and commitment by the council leadership.
Beyond the cash support scheme, the article also highlighted other achievements of the Hunpe administration, including improved environmental sanitation, enhanced healthcare delivery, strengthened community policing, food support initiatives, workforce reforms and increased attention to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and persons with disabilities. Ongoing efforts in road expansion and education infrastructure were also cited.
As the administration approaches its first anniversary, the writer concluded that Hunpe’s leadership reflects alignment with both federal and state development agendas, urging residents to make productive use of government interventions and contribute to the overall growth of the local government area.
