Residents of Olorunda Local Council Development Area in Badagry have been called upon to take decisive steps in combating tuberculosis, as Mrs Folashade Ajose marked the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day with a strong message of awareness and shared responsibility.
Speaking to commemorate the global health event, Mrs Ajose, wife of the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, described tuberculosis as a serious but curable disease, stressing that early detection and proper treatment remain the most effective ways to halt its spread.
She aligned her message with this year’s theme, “We can end tuberculosis: powered by Primary Health Care, innovation, and committed communities,” noting that access to quality healthcare, active community involvement, and sustained investment in the health sector are critical to winning the fight against the disease.
Mrs Ajose urged residents to take advantage of primary health centres for routine check-ups and testing, while also calling for a collective effort to end the stigma surrounding tuberculosis. She warned that fear and misinformation continue to discourage many affected persons from seeking timely medical help.
Highlighting the role of grassroots institutions, she called on community leaders, families, and religious bodies to intensify sensitisation efforts and provide support for those affected.
Reaffirming her commitment to a healthier Olorunda, Mrs Ajose expressed confidence that with stronger community participation, improved healthcare delivery, and consistent leadership support, the council area can make meaningful progress towards eliminating tuberculosis.
