Tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Badagry have taken a fresh turn as party chieftain and former Sole Administrator of Badagry West LCDA, Hon. Genesis Nuatin, speaks out amid growing internal disagreements over the forthcoming party primaries.
In a strongly worded statement sent to Badagry Today, a community news platform, Nuatin cautioned against what he described as a recurring pattern of manipulation, propaganda and internal divisions that have long shaped the political landscape of Badagry.
Reflecting on past experiences, the APC leader lamented that genuine representation in Badagry has often been undermined by what he termed “charlatanry and internal schism,” driven by individuals who rely on influence, name-dropping and unfounded rumours to position themselves as dominant political forces.
According to him, such tactics have consistently frustrated efforts to enthrone leaders who are truly accountable to the people. He warned that when the illusion of such influence eventually collapses, it often becomes difficult for those involved to come to terms with reality.
Nuatin also took a swipe at public office holders who, in his view, fail to live up to the responsibility entrusted to them. He questioned the tendency of some leaders to shift blame rather than accept accountability, stressing that divine opportunity must be matched with purposeful service.
“The message is simple,” he stated, noting that neither wealth, bravado nor political pretensions can guarantee indefinite control of power, especially for those who treat public office as a personal empire.
Dismissing sentiments of narrow local interests, Nuatin insisted that the time has come for Badagry to rise above divisive tendencies and embrace a more progressive political culture.
His intervention comes at a critical moment as the APC in Badagry grapples with internal wrangling over candidates for various positions ahead of next month’s primaries, a development that observers say could shape the political direction of the area in the coming years.
Nuatin, however, ended his message on a hopeful note, urging stakeholders to prioritize the collective good and move Badagry forward beyond current expectations.
