A tourism expert and prominent Badagry stakeholder, Hon. Apata Samson Olatunji Nunayon, has explained the motivation behind the creation of the Bonu–Sesi Again Movement 2027, describing the initiative as a people-driven effort aimed at promoting continuity in legislative representation for the development of Badagry.
Nunayon, who is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Eko Destination Ltd and Eko Tourism Online Radio, said the movement was conceived out of concern over what he described as the long-standing culture of single-term representation that has slowed the pace of development in Badagry.
According to him, the idea behind the movement is not merely political but rooted in the need to give performing representatives enough time to consolidate their work and attract more development opportunities to the constituency.
He noted that Badagry, with its rich historical heritage and strategic location as a border community, possesses enormous economic potential in areas such as cultural tourism, maritime activities, cross-border trade and youth-driven enterprise.
However, he lamented that these opportunities cannot be fully harnessed if representatives are constantly replaced after a single term, a situation he said disrupts continuity and weakens the constituency’s influence within government structures.
“Legislative representation goes beyond occupying a seat in parliament. It requires time to understand the complexities of governance, build relationships within ministries and agencies, and develop the networks needed to attract meaningful projects to the constituency,” Nunayon said.
He explained that lawmakers who serve only one term often begin to build influence and institutional relationships just as their tenure is ending, leaving the next representative to start the process all over again.
Nunayon said the Bonu–Sesi Again Movement was therefore created to encourage a shift in political thinking among the people of Badagry, urging voters to prioritize development and continuity where leadership has demonstrated commitment.
Speaking on the choice of leaders the movement is supporting, he said the decision was based on what he described as their growing impact and engagement with the needs of the constituency.
At the federal level, Nunayon pointed to the activities of Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, the lawmaker representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, whom he credited with focusing on youth empowerment and human capital development through initiatives designed to equip young people with digital and entrepreneurial skills.
He also acknowledged the efforts of Hon. Solomon Bonu at the Lagos State House of Assembly, noting that the legislator has continued to advocate for Badagry in areas relating to community development, tourism promotion and legislative representation.
According to him, the presence of both lawmakers at the federal and state levels presents what he described as a strategic opportunity for Badagry to strengthen its voice within government if their representation is sustained.
Nunayon emphasized that the movement seeks to encourage residents of Badagry to evaluate leadership based on performance, commitment and long-term development rather than short-term political sentiments.
He added that the Bonu–Sesi Again Movement will engage youth groups, community leaders, women organizations, traditional institutions and other stakeholders across the Badagry Federation in promoting the message of continuity for progress.
“The future of Badagry depends on our collective ability to make wise political decisions. Where leadership is working and progress is being made, continuity should be encouraged so that development can take root,” he said.
Nunayon maintained that the movement represents a broader call for stability and sustained advocacy for the growth of Badagry, stressing that meaningful development requires patience, experience and consistent leadership.
Hon. Apata Samson Olatunji Nunayon is also the National Vice President of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria for the South West region. He previously served as Supervisor for Education, Tourism and Environment in Badagry Local Government and is the convener of Tourism Vanguard for Tinubu 2027 as well as the Bonu–Sesi Again Movement 2027.
