A respected legal practitioner and public servant, Barrister Hunja Peter Owolabani, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat representing Badagry Constituency II under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Owolabani, a native of Ajara-Topa in Badagry, enters the race with a blend of royal heritage, legal expertise and grassroots experience that he says will be dedicated to advancing development and effective representation for the people of the constituency.
The aspiring lawmaker hails from the renowned Owolabani Royal Family of the Hunwhekoh Ruling House and is a son of the revered Oba of Ajara-Topa Kingdom. His lineage, which is deeply connected to the traditional leadership structure of the area, has long been associated with community service and leadership.
Growing up within a royal and community-focused environment, Owolabani developed a deep understanding of the social and developmental challenges facing the people at the grassroots level. Those close to him say this background has shaped his strong commitment to unity, progress and inclusive development across the Badagry axis.
Owolabani began his academic journey at Gbenopo Primary School where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate. He later attended Ajara Grammar School, Ajara-Vetho, before completing his secondary education at Damtops International School in Morogbo.
Driven by a passion for justice, governance and public service, he proceeded to Lagos State University where he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree. His professional training continued at the Nigerian Law School in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where he qualified as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
After his call to the Bar, he undertook his National Youth Service Corps programme at the Ministry of Justice in Osogbo, Osun State, where he contributed his legal expertise to public service.
Currently, Barrister Owolabani serves with the Lagos State Ministry of Justice as a public and civil servant, a role through which he has continued to contribute to the administration of justice and legal development within the state.
Beyond his professional duties, he is widely known for his involvement in community development initiatives, youth mentorship and social support activities across Ajara-Topa and surrounding communities. Residents say he has consistently shown commitment to empowering young people, supporting small businesses and promoting unity within the constituency.
His maternal roots trace to Agbojedo Quarters in Ajara-Dokoh, a connection that further strengthens his ties across different communities in Badagry.
Speaking on his aspiration, Owolabani said his decision to seek election into the Lagos State House of Assembly is driven by a desire to bring effective representation, fresh ideas and purposeful leadership to Badagry Constituency II.
He pledged to champion policies that will promote economic empowerment, improved infrastructure, better educational opportunities, youth development and inclusive governance.
Political observers say his entry into the race adds a new dimension to the contest, especially given his combination of royal background, legal training and experience within the public service.
As the political landscape in Badagry Constituency II begins to take shape ahead of the next election cycle, Barrister Hunja Peter Owolabani says he is ready to work with stakeholders, community leaders and residents to build a stronger and more prosperous constituency.
