After many years of waiting, hoping and making do with little, residents of Javie Community in Badagry can finally breathe a sigh of relief as a brand new solar powered school building facilitated by Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan is now ready for commissioning.
The project, a block of two fully furnished classrooms with an office, stands proudly at Javie Community Junior High School in Badagry, Lagos State. Equipped with solar power and fitted with modern school benches and chairs, the building is set to provide a conducive learning environment for children who for years had no access to a public school within their community.
Javie Community Junior High School was originally a self help initiative by determined residents who refused to allow their children’s future to be sacrificed on the altar of neglect. For a long time, the community had no public school, forcing young pupils to walk several kilometres daily to attend primary schools in neighbouring Iragon Iragbo and Ikoga Zebbe. The daily journey was not only stressful but also discouraging for many families.
Moved by the plight of the people, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources Upstream, facilitated the construction of the new school building through the Universal Basic Education intervention framework. The project is widely seen as a strategic response to an age long absence of public educational infrastructure in the area.
Community leaders have described the development as a turning point for Javie, noting that the presence of a standard, solar powered facility will significantly improve access to quality education and reduce the burden on young learners.
Badagry Today gathered that with the completion of the building, efforts are already in top gear to fast track the formal commencement of academic activities. The community is also working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the school is fully taken over by the Lagos State Government for proper administration and integration into the public education system.
For many parents in Javie, the new classrooms are more than bricks and mortar. They represent hope, dignity and a brighter future for their children. And for Hon. Sesi Whingan, the project stands as yet another testament to his commitment to grassroots development and equitable access to basic education across Badagry Federal Constituency.
