A former Sole Administrator of Badagry West LCDA and APC leader in Badagry Local Government, Hon Nuatin Genesis Williams, has made a passionate appeal for unity among political leaders, appointed officials and top civil servants from Badagry, warning that division and selfish interests have continued to stall the area’s development.
In a message addressed to Badagry Today news platform, Williams said the time had come for what he described as a “New Badagry,” anchored on collective action and a shared commitment to progress.
He urged influential sons and daughters of Badagry to move away from what he called greedy and selfish interests, hate, and back-biting, which he said have yielded little or nothing for the people over the years. According to him, the community must recognise the strength in unity to confront both internal and external forces allegedly benefiting from Badagry’s underdevelopment or promoting divisive tendencies.
Williams proposed the establishment of a common forum where all elected representatives, political appointees and top-ranking civil servants of Badagry extraction would meet regularly. The aim, he said, would be to harmonise their individual efforts in delivering services and creating equal opportunities in development and employment for the people.
He stressed that it was no longer sufficient for public office holders to focus on assisting only a handful of associates, insisting that leadership must translate into broad-based impact for the larger population.
To achieve what he described as unity of purpose, the APC leader called on privileged Badagrians to set aside personal egos, superiority battles and status considerations. He also cautioned against sycophancy and ethnic divisions among Awori, Ogu, Ayonu and Thefi groups, as well as the rise of religious tensions which he noted were previously alien to the town’s culture.
Williams maintained that Badagry risks remaining stagnant if its leaders fail to work together to press. for the area’s fair share of opportunities at the state level. He emphasised that forging a common front was essential to claiming what rightfully belongs to the people.
“There is nothing as powerful as an idea whose time has come,” he declared, expressing hope that the call for unity would mark the beginning of a new chapter for Badagry.
He concluded with a prayer for the prosperity of the ancient town and its people, saying, “God bless Badagry and Badagrians.”
