A seasoned education professional with over three decades of experience, Hontonyon Joel Viyon has been appointed as the new Education Secretary of the Badagry Local Government Education Authority (LGEA).
Viyon, an indigene of Igbogbele in Badagry West Local Council Development Area, takes over from Alhaji Modinat Abike Bolaji Adebayo, who previously held the position.
With an impressive 35 years of meritorious service in the education sector, the new Education Secretary is widely regarded as a dedicated administrator and committed teacher who has contributed significantly to the growth of basic education in Badagry and beyond.
Over the course of his career, Viyon has served in several key capacities within the education system. He worked as a Classroom Teacher before rising through the ranks to become Acting Head of School Support Services and later Head of Section, Basic Education Quality Assurance (BEQA) in Badagry. His roles placed him at the forefront of monitoring academic standards and strengthening the quality of teaching and learning across primary schools in the area.
Beyond classroom administration, Viyon has also played a notable role in promoting sports development among school children. He coordinated the activities of the National Association of Primary School Games and represented the State Universal Basic Education Board as a coach at the National School Sport Festival, helping to nurture young talents in school sports.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the education sector, he was honoured with the Best Head of Section award at the Annual Merit Awards.
Viyon holds a Bachelor of Science in Education in Physical and Health Education from the University of Ado Ekiti.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen the administration of primary education in Badagry, drawing on his wealth of experience, leadership skills and longstanding commitment to academic excellence.
