A young education advocate from Badagry, Abigail Hungbo, has been named the Badagry Divisional Youth Ambassador following the unveiling of the 2025/2026 IBILE Youth Ambassadors by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
Hungbo, widely regarded as one of Badagry’s rising voices in education advocacy, is the founder of the educational podcast titled The Education School Doesn’t Teach, a platform where she discusses practical knowledge, life skills and critical issues often overlooked in traditional classroom learning.
The unveiling ceremony took place at Lagos House in Ikeja and brought together top government officials including the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, and members of the Lagos Youth Parliament.
Hungbo emerged as the Badagry Divisional Ambassador after participating in an intensive one week residential boot camp training programme alongside 49 other young participants drawn from across the five divisions of Lagos State.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to youth development, assuring young people in the state that the government would continue to create programmes and policies that strengthen their leadership capacity and position them for global competitiveness.
He noted that some of the selected ambassadors would also have the opportunity to travel abroad for advanced leadership training as part of the programme’s long term vision of raising globally minded young leaders.
The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, described the Ibile Youth Academy as one of the flagship initiatives of the ministry aimed at equipping young people with the knowledge, values and skills needed to thrive as leaders in different spheres of life.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharm. Mrs. Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, said the initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the state government to youth empowerment in line with the THEMES Plus agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.
At the end of the programme, Adetomiwa Banjo emerged as the State Youth Ambassador, while Osuntobo Oluwabunmi was named the Ikeja Divisional Ambassador. Waliat Sulaimon emerged as the Ikorodu Divisional Ambassador, Ayomide Dacosta as the Lagos Divisional Ambassador, and Layole Sumayyah as the Epe Divisional Ambassador.
As divisional ambassadors, the winners are expected to initiate and execute impactful community projects aimed at addressing social challenges within their respective divisions.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of cash gifts and letters of commendation to outstanding members of the outgoing cohort, while Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the 44 other participants who did not emerge as winners that they would receive consolation gifts in recognition of their efforts during the programme.
For Badagry, Hungbo’s emergence has been widely celebrated as a proud moment, highlighting the growing influence of young innovators from the historic coastal division who are using education, creativity and leadership to drive positive change in society.
