Barely a day after assuming office as the new Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu has removed Benjamin Hundeyin as the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force in what observers describe as part of an early restructuring within the police hierarchy report by the Guardian Newspaper says
Hundeyin’s removal comes just six months after he was appointed to the high-profile position in September 2025. At the time of his appointment, he was a Chief Superintendent of Police, taking over from Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who had earlier been promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.
During his brief tenure as Force spokesperson, Hundeyin became a visible face of the police institution, leading communication efforts aimed at improving the public perception of the force. He also championed initiatives focused on rebuilding public trust, strengthening accountability and expanding the use of digital platforms for police communication.
The decision to remove him from the role came less than 24 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police, marking a new chapter in the leadership of the police.
Disu was appointed on February 24, 2026, following the removal of Kayode Egbetokun, who had served as Inspector-General since 2023.
As of the time of filing this report, the police authorities have yet to announce a replacement for Hundeyin as the Force Public Relations Officer.
Hundeyin, a native of Badagry in Lagos State, had originally been appointed to the position by Egbetokun. He was recently elevated in rank on February 3, 2026, moving from Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police.
A seasoned police administrator and communicator, Hundeyin holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from University of Ibadan.
Over the years, he built a strong career within the police public relations structure, working closely with former Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba. His professional experience includes service at the Zone 2 Command, the Force Headquarters in Abuja and as spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, roles that earned him recognition for his active engagement with the public and the media.
