Badagry is set to witness a major environmental turnaround as the Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, alongside his wife, Mrs. Tosin Whingan, inspected the ongoing excavation of the Ikoga dumpsite ahead of its transformation into a green public space.
According to statement released from the Office of the MHR, the inspection, which took place last week at the Ikoga axis of Badagry, marks a significant step in the preparation for a landmark green space project jointly championed by Prudential Zenith Life Insurance and the Clean Up Badagry Initiative. Excavation works are already in progress, signaling the beginning of what stakeholders describe as a long awaited environmental renewal for the community.
Mrs. Tosin Whingan, Patron of Clean Up Badagry, a community based environmental organisation advocating for a cleaner and healthier Badagry, joined the inspection to monitor progress and engage directly with partners and stakeholders on ground. The initiative is designed to convert the former dumpsite into a safe, eco friendly space that will serve residents for recreation, relaxation and community activities.
Speaking via a post shared on his official Facebook page, Hon. Whingan described the project as a reflection of shared responsibility and collective action toward environmental sustainability and improved community wellbeing. He explained that beyond addressing the environmental and health concerns associated with the dumpsite, the green space will create new social value and restore pride to the Ikoga community.
The lawmaker stressed that consistent collaboration with partners and local stakeholders remains key to the successful delivery of the project. He expressed optimism that the initiative would culminate in a healthy, vibrant and welcoming green space that the people of Ikoga and Badagry at large can proudly call their own.
Hon. Whingan further noted that the completion of the project would not only redefine the physical outlook of the area but also reinforce the culture of environmental responsibility and sustainable development across Badagry.
Residents and community leaders have welcomed the development with optimism, describing it as a turning point in the environmental narrative of Ikoga. Many believe the project will serve as a model for similar environmental interventions in other parts of Badagry.
