JUST IN: Sowore Arrested in Court

Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The news of his arrest was made public by human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he condemned the action and accused the police, alongside President Bola Tinubu’s administration, of trampling on the country’s judicial system.

Effiong wrote:

“The arrest of Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja moments ago is preposterous. The police and the Tinubu regime are making a mockery of our judicial system. He should be freed immediately. Stop the shenanigans.”

Earlier, Sowore had shared on Facebook that he was at the Federal High Court with senior advocate Kanu Agabi, who leads the legal team representing Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

According to Sowore, Agabi had informed him that his team planned to withdraw from the case, a move that could leave Kanu without legal representation as his trial continues.
