French Village Relocation from Badagry

The management of the Nigeria French Language Village in Ajara, Badagry, Lagos State, has dismissed reports alleging that the Federal Government plans to relocate the institution from Badagry to another part of the country.

The management described the reports as rumours and urged members of the public to disregard them, insisting that the institution remains operational and is effectively carrying out its statutory responsibilities.

The clarification was contained in a press release dated October 16, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocols, Mrs Sessi Fagbeji-Agemo.

The statement came a day after Badagry-based social commentator, Prince Samuel Mawutin Ofade, raised the alarm over an alleged plan to move the institution from Badagry to Northern Nigeria, describing the reported development as a threat to the area's interests and another indication of alleged Federal Government neglect.

However, the management of the French Language Village maintained that the institution continues to receive support from the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the statement, the Nigeria French Language Village is one of the four Federal Government-owned inter-university centres in the country and has continued to fulfil its mandate of providing French language training to students and other categories of Nigerians.

The management disclosed that the institution had, over the last 35 years, trained more than 73,000 undergraduates from 52 federal, state and private universities, in addition to thousands of school leavers, government officials, corporate executives, military personnel and paramilitary officers.

It also cited the institution's return to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) beneficiary list in 2025, after 14 years of exclusion, as evidence of the support it is receiving from the Tinubu administration.

The management urged individuals it described as distractors to stop dragging the name of the institution into controversies involving the Federal Government or the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The statement did not indicate any plan to relocate the institution or provide details of the circumstances that gave rise to the relocation rumours.

The development follows growing concerns among some residents and stakeholders in Badagry over the Federal Government's presence and investment in the border community.

Ofade had called on the Federal Government and APC leaders in Badagry Federal Constituency and Lagos State to investigate the alleged relocation plan and take steps to protect the interests of the area.

With the latest clarification, the institution's management has publicly rejected the relocation reports, maintaining that the Nigeria French Language Village remains in Badagry and continues to discharge its responsibilities.

Badagry Today will continue to monitor developments surrounding the institution and other Federal Government establishments in the area.
