The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of teachers and non-teaching staff with the approval of housing and car refurbishment loans for 265 beneficiaries.
The approvals, granted through the Teachers’ Loan Board, were announced at the Board’s bi-annual meeting held on Tuesday at the Teaching Service Commission headquarters, Ikeja. The meeting was presided over by the Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila.
Speaking at the event, Oyekan-Ismaila stressed that the initiative underscores government’s resolve to support educators and retain top talent in the teaching profession.
“With the upward review of car refurbishment loans from N100,000 to N500,000 for senior-level officers, and from N30,000 to N100,000 for junior-level officers, more staff can now benefit from the scheme,” she said. She also confirmed that recommendations for a similar review of housing loans are already under consideration.
She urged beneficiaries to use the loans wisely, emphasizing that improving teachers’ welfare directly impacts the quality of education students receive across the state.
On his part, the Director of Teachers’ Welfare Department, Mr. Akinwande Festus, noted that adequate welfare packages boost morale and job satisfaction among educators, while also preventing the loss of experienced staff to other sectors.
The Teachers’ Loan Board is responsible for reviewing and approving loan applications for both teaching and non-teaching staff across Lagos State’s education districts, LASTVEB, and TESCOM, with disbursement handled by the State Treasury Office in Alausa.
A very big thank you to the state government.More of this as soon as possible.👏💯
