Following approval from the Lagos State Education District V to implement a Gender Equality programme at Ajara Junior Grammar School under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), MAEJT Nigeria successfully inaugurated a Child Rights Club in the school on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.
Ahead of the inauguration, an assessment exercise was conducted on 6 May 2026 to identify committed and passionate students who would serve as pioneer members of the club.
The establishment of the Child Rights Club is designed to promote awareness of child rights, gender equality, leadership, child protection, and responsible participation among students. The club will also provide a safe and inclusive platform where students can learn, speak out against abuse and discrimination, build self-confidence, and contribute positively to their school and community.
Through regular activities, sensitization sessions, discussions, and peer-to-peer engagement, the club is expected to strengthen discipline, mutual respect, teamwork, and advocacy for the rights and welfare of children within the school environment.
This initiative is funded by the United States Department of State Service through The Freedom Fund under MAEJT Nigeria’s programme aimed at combating exploitative child domestic work in Lagos State.
MAEJT Nigeria remains committed to empowering children and young people to become informed advocates and active participants in building a safer, more inclusive society for all.
