The Palace of the Onigbanko of Igbanko Land in Badagry has publicly dissociated the traditional institution from a man identified as Ogabi Olubukola Joseph, who was recently seen in a viral video involving alleged illicit drugs.
In a disclaimer issued on behalf of the monarch, HRM Oba Sheriff Adeshina Bello, the palace clarified that the individual parading himself as the Baale of Mushin-Gbanko is unknown to the Onigbanko and has no official or personal relationship with the royal cabinet.
According to the statement, the monarch and members of the Onigbanko Cabinet were compelled to react following the circulation of the video on social media, where the suspect was reportedly apprehended by law enforcement agents over alleged possession of illicit substances.
The palace stressed that the traditional ruler remains a law-abiding and disciplined personality who does not tolerate criminality in any form, particularly drug trafficking and other related offences.
“The said self-acclaimed Baale is neither known to Onigbanko nor has any personal or official dealings with him,” the statement noted, while urging members of the public not to link the suspect with the palace or the Onigbanko traditional institution.
The disclaimer further reaffirmed the commitment of the palace to peace, discipline and lawful conduct within the community, warning against attempts by unauthorised individuals to falsely associate themselves with the royal stool for personal gain or public deception.
The monarch also called on relevant security and law enforcement agencies to intensify investigations into the matter and ensure that appropriate legal actions are taken.
