Hon. Gbenu Henugbe Joseph has declared his intention to contest for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat for Badagry Constituency I.

The former Chairman of Badagry West LCDA made this known on Saturday during a meeting with party leaders and stakeholders in Badagry, where he sought their support and informed them of his plan to run.

He said the visit was to formally begin his campaign and not to present a manifesto.

“I am not here to present a manifesto today. There has been publicity about my intention, but today marks the start of my journey into the race,” he said.

Gbenu also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, using the phrase “Emi lo kan” to affirm his readiness to serve.

He pledged loyalty to the party and its leadership.

“I will remain loyal, dedicated and committed to the party, its leaders and the people,” he said.

The Director-General of his campaign, Hon. Yahaya Lateef, known as WAY, described Gbenu as experienced and prepared for the role.

“This is a public office, not a traditional title. Everyone has the right to contest, and Gbenu is here to declare his intention,” he said.

Lateef said Gbenu’s decision to meet party leaders first showed respect for party structure, adding that his record as council chairman and his community programmes showed his capacity.

“House of Assembly is not about grammar but performance. We need someone who will deliver, and Gbenu fits that role,” he said.

Observers say Lateef’s involvement adds structure to the campaign.

The apex leader of the area commended Gbenu for consulting party elders and prayed for his success.

Prayers were also offered by Chief Frederick Ajaneson, as supporters expressed support for his bid.

The declaration marks the start of his campaign ahead of the elections.
