Barring any last minute change, the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has settled for Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi as consensus chairman for another four year term.
The decision, reached by party leaders after a series of consultations, clears the path for Ojelabi’s return as head of the party when the state congress holds on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Sources within the party disclosed that the congress is expected to be largely ceremonial, as stakeholders have agreed to retain the current executive members, except those who have taken up other assignments.
A party chieftain, who spoke on Monday, said although there were the usual grievances that followed the recent local government primaries, Ojelabi’s overall performance earned him the confidence of the leadership.
Apart from the complaints that typically trail primaries, which are not unusual in party politics, he has done creditably well, the source said, adding that leaders believe continuity will strengthen the party ahead of future political engagements.
Another senior party figure confirmed that Tuesday’s gathering would essentially serve as an affirmation of the existing state executive council.
With the consensus arrangement in place, attention now shifts to the congress venue, where delegates are expected to formally ratify the leadership decision and usher in what party insiders describe as a new phase of consolidation for the Lagos APC.
