The Badagry Women Development Forum has joined voices with the global community to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, urging leaders, institutions and community stakeholders to invest more in women as a catalyst for social and economic progress.
In a statement released on Sunday to mark the annual celebration, the Convener and Principal Coordinator of the forum, Mrs. Sewede Pot-Balogun Olorunfemi, said the day serves as an opportunity to recognise the strength, resilience and invaluable contributions of women across communities.
She noted that this year’s theme, “Give To Gain,” highlights the importance of supporting and empowering women in order to achieve collective progress in society.
According to her, when individuals, governments and organisations commit their time, resources and opportunities to the development of women, the benefits extend far beyond the individual, strengthening families, uplifting communities and advancing nations.
The forum commended the women of Badagry for their dedication and role in social, economic and community development, describing them as key drivers of grassroots progress.
Mrs. Pot-Balogun Olorunfemi also reaffirmed the commitment of the Badagry Women Development Forum to continue advocating for women empowerment, development and increased participation of women in leadership and decision making within Badagry and beyond.
She called on political leaders, corporate organisations and community stakeholders to create more opportunities for women and girls while ensuring their voices are heard and their potential fully realised.
The BWDF leader added that building an inclusive and progressive society requires collective effort, urging communities to continue supporting women through encouragement, mentorship and access to opportunities.
She concluded by extending warm wishes to women in Badagry and across the world, celebrating their courage, achievements and enduring impact on society.
