**I Turned to Stealing When Yahoo No Longer Paid**

A 25 year old man, Emeka Osemel, has been arrested for allegedly stealing a mobile phone in Boji Boji Owa, Agbor, in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Osemel was apprehended by members of the Owa Youth Vigilante, a local security outfit operating under the Owa Youth Council, after he was accused of snatching a phone in the community.

Speaking during an interview with Ika Weekly Newspaper, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed that he had previously been involved in internet fraud, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, which he said had sustained him financially for a long time.

According to him, he had lived comfortably from the proceeds of the illegal online activities until the business suddenly stopped yielding returns in recent months.

“For the past six months, the Yahoo business has not been paying me again. Because of that, I decided to start stealing people’s properties just to survive,” he admitted.

The suspect explained that he is originally from Aliagwai Community but currently resides in Alihame Community in the same area.

He expressed regret over his actions and pleaded with members of the public to forgive him, promising that he would not repeat the offence.

“I want you people to please forgive me. It will not happen again,” he said.

Sources within the community said Osemel was caught by members of the vigilante group shortly after the alleged theft and was taken to their headquarters for questioning.

As at the time this report was filed, officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Owa Oyibu Police Division had arrived at the vigilante headquarters to take custody of the suspect for further interrogation and possible prosecution.

The incident has once again drawn attention to rising concerns over youth involvement in cybercrime and other related criminal activities across parts of the country.
