The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, has restated his administration’s resolve to fully implement comprehensive food and nutrition programmes aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
Ajose made the declaration during the inauguration of the Lagos State Local Government Committee on Food and Nutrition under the N774 Initiative, held between March 25 and 26, 2026, at Dover Hotels in Aromire, Ikeja.
Speaking during a press interview at the event, the council boss stressed that access to adequate food and proper nutrition remains a critical foundation for building healthy, secure and productive communities. He noted that no society can achieve sustainable development without prioritising the nutritional well-being of its people, pointing to poverty and prevailing economic challenges as major drivers of food insecurity and malnutrition.
As part of immediate follow-up actions, Ajose announced plans to establish and inaugurate the Local Government Committee on Food and Nutrition within Olorunda LCDA. According to him, the move will ensure that the initiative is effectively driven at the grassroots level where it is most needed.
He further assured stakeholders of his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary logistics and institutional backing to guarantee the programme’s success. This, he said, will include technical and professional support, adequate budgetary provisions, and the deployment of strong monitoring and evaluation systems. He also revealed plans to build a robust database for nutrition-related activities and to strengthen capacity through targeted training programmes.
The proposed committee is expected to bring together key actors across multiple sectors, including top council officials, heads of departments in Agriculture and Social Services, Environment, Health, Information, and Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, alongside representatives of professional bodies, community-based organisations, faith-based groups, non-governmental organisations, the private sector and development partners.
Its core mandate will focus on improving food security across households and communities, reducing undernutrition among infants, children, adolescents and women, tackling micronutrient deficiencies, and boosting public awareness on nutrition. The committee will also promote the integration of nutrition education into formal and informal systems, while strengthening research, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
Ajose maintained that the initiative is in line with his administration’s RESHAPE Agenda, which is focused on building a healthier, more resilient and economically productive population across Olorunda LCDA.
