Olorunda Local Council Development Area in Lagos State may be on the path to renewed grassroots development following a strong endorsement of its leadership by ActionAid Nigeria after a high level engagement with the council.
The Programme Manager of ActionAid Nigeria in Badagry, King Adebowale, described the Executive Chairman of the council, Ajose Peter Kumayon, as a proactive and responsible leader, a remark that reflects a shift from previous experiences with the council.
Speaking after a strategic meeting held at the council secretariat on Wednesday, Adebowale said the chairman’s swift response to engagement stood out. According to him, earlier attempts to collaborate with the previous administration were unsuccessful despite several formal approaches.
He noted that his recent outreach to Ajose yielded immediate feedback and action, leading to the prompt scheduling of the meeting.
Adebowale explained that the visit was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the organisation and the council, especially in delivering development programmes to riverine and underserved communities within Olorunda.
He added that ActionAid Nigeria, an affiliate of ActionAid International, has been active in Badagry since 2017, implementing community based projects in partnership with local governments such as Badagry West, Badagry Local Government and Ojo.
The organisation’s interventions, he said, cut across key sectors including education, healthcare, women empowerment, poverty alleviation, voter education and advocacy, particularly in hard to reach communities like Ojogun.
Reaffirming the organisation’s commitment, Adebowale said ActionAid is ready to deepen its presence in Olorunda through strategic collaboration with the council to ensure sustainable development outcomes.
In his response, Ajose welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness to partner with credible organisations that can improve the living conditions of residents across the council area.
He stressed that the council is open to partnerships in critical sectors such as education, healthcare and agriculture, noting that collaboration remains key to reaching vulnerable populations.
The meeting was attended by top council officials including the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Aina Dauda; Secretary to the Local Government, Ashade Wahab; Chief of Staff, Cornelius Akinyele; Supervisor for Education, Bankole Afeez; and Supervisor for Health, Gandonu Ajohn.
Also present were the Special Adviser on Health, Apelaye Timileyin; Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Kuburat Okunade; Special Adviser on WAPA, Bolaji Oke; and the Council Manager, Moruf Adesanya, alongside other management staff.
The engagement is expected to open a new chapter of collaboration that could drive meaningful development across Olorunda, particularly in its riverine and underserved communities.
