Rep Whingan Intervenes on Power Crisis, Distributes Solar Inverters, Panels to to 100 Households in Badagry

In a bold step to cushion the impact of persistent power shortages in Badagry, the Member of the House of Representatives for Badagry Federal Constituency, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, has rolled out 100 sets of solar inverter kits to residents across the constituency.

The intervention, implemented in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency REA, is designed to provide a dependable alternative power source for households that have long struggled with irregular public electricity supply.

The distribution ceremony was held on Tuesday, 3rd February 2026, at Hon. Whingan’s constituency office in Ibereko, where officials of the REA, led by Mr. Tanimowo Segun, supervised the exercise and formally handed over the solar kits to beneficiaries.

To ensure fairness and inclusiveness, beneficiaries were selected from the three local councils within the constituency, Badagry Local Government, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, and Badagry West Local Council Development Area.

Each recipient received a 1.2KW lithium battery powered inverter system equipped with solar panels. The setup allows for flexible charging through solar energy, public power supply, or a generator, giving users multiple options to maintain steady electricity.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Whingan, represented by Chief Sedegla Pot-Balogun, Chairman of the Sesi Whingan campaign team, reaffirmed his commitment to people focused projects that directly improve the standard of living in Badagry. He emphasized that stable electricity remains vital for homes, small scale businesses, and students who depend on power for daily activities.

The beneficiaries, in their reactions, described the initiative as timely and life changing, noting that it would significantly reduce their dependence on expensive fuel and unreliable public power.

The solar inverter distribution is part of a series of constituency driven interventions facilitated by Hon. Whingan in collaboration with relevant federal agencies, aimed at tackling critical social and infrastructural challenges across Badagry Federal Constituency.
