The Executive Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area, Ajose Peter Kumayon, has once again taken a bold step in promoting inclusive education by awarding a laptop and full scholarship support to a visually impaired undergraduate of Obafemi Awolowo University.
The beneficiary, Miss Amos Abiodun Elizabeth, a 100 level Political Science student in the Faculty of Social Sciences, received the support through her sister, Miss Darasimi Amos, during a presentation held at the Chairman’s office.
Hon Kumayon explained that the gesture was a fulfilment of a promise he made during an earlier engagement with Persons With Disabilities at the Chieftaincy Chamber last year, under his administration’s RESHAPE Agenda. He stressed that disability should never stand in the way of education, excellence or personal development, adding that every resident of the council deserves equal opportunities to succeed.
Beyond donating a laptop to aid her studies, the Chairman pledged to fully cover Miss Elizabeth’s tuition fees and hostel accommodation, alongside periodic financial assistance to support her throughout her academic journey.
According to him, the initiative reflects his government’s commitment to building a compassionate and people centred society where no one is left behind, regardless of physical challenges. He encouraged the young scholar to remain focused, resilient and determined in her pursuit of academic excellence.
Speaking on behalf of her sister, Miss Darasimi Amos expressed deep gratitude to the Chairman for his kindness and inclusive leadership, assuring that Miss Elizabeth would make the most of the opportunity and represent the council with pride.
Also present at the presentation ceremony was the Head of Department, Education, Mrs Bunmi Idowu Onasile, who commended the Chairman for his consistent support for education and vulnerable groups.
The gesture has been widely praised by residents as another strong statement of Hon Kumayon’s dedication to empowering youths and promoting equal access to education across the council.
