Residents of Lagon in Badagry were filled with excitement on Tuesday as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Setonji David, rolled out heavy equipment to rehabilitate key rural roads that had remained in poor condition for years.
The intervention covered the stretch from Ahlome through Mesebo to Baba Tractor Place, roads that had been almost completely swallowed by overgrown grasses and riddled with deep potholes. For a long time, residents and commuters endured narrow, rough paths that made movement stressful, with vehicles, motorcycles and even heavy duty tippers struggling daily to pass through.
With the grading and clearing works now completed on major portions, the roads have been widened, smoothed and made accessible once again, restoring free movement and easing transportation challenges within the community.
Community members could not hide their joy, describing the development as timely and impactful, especially for traders, farmers and students who rely heavily on the roads.
The rehabilitation exercise, according to the organisers, will continue into the next phase as more affected areas are scheduled for grading in the coming days.
Special appreciation was extended to community supporters who stood by throughout the exercise, including Pastor Isaac, Alije George, Sesinu, Adebayo Sunday and Vincent Ogun, whose commitment helped ensure the success of the first phase.
The project was announced in a statement signed by Posu Davies, spokesperson to the Deputy Chief Whip, reaffirming the lawmaker’s commitment to improving grassroots infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents across Badagry communities.
