A former Sole Administrator of Badagry West LCDA and APC Leader in Badagry Local Government, Hon Nuatin Genesis Williams, has called on elected representatives from the axis to clearly state the development projects Badagry should expect from the proposed N4.4 trillion 2026 Lagos State budget.
In a statement sent to Badagry Today, a news and community based platform, Williams questioned the substance of representation as debates continue over what truly qualifies as impactful leadership.
According to him, the passage of the 2026 budget by the Lagos State House of Assembly presents a critical moment for residents to assess their representatives beyond social media visibility and public hype.
As the debate rages about what constitutes or can be accepted as impactful representation by our representatives, I pause to ask what specific development projects we in Badagry should expect as the N4.4 trillion 2026 Lagos State budget is passed, Williams stated.
He stressed that the budget cycle is the most appropriate period to measure the seriousness and effectiveness of lawmakers, noting that lobbying for projects and attracting government resources to their constituencies remains a core responsibility of elected officials.
Beyond the social media hype and the proclivity of projecting our representatives beyond their constitutional responsibilities, this crucial period of allocating resources to projects in the state should best serve as when they are seriously assessed, he said.
Williams listed key sectors where Badagry continues to face deficits, including infrastructure, healthcare, housing, security, energy, tourism and welfare support programmes. He noted that tourism, in particular, remains Badagry’s area of comparative advantage and should receive deliberate attention in the state budget.
One of their responsibilities is to lobby and ensure our development deficits are uncompromisingly pursued, he added.
The APC leader concluded by directly challenging representatives from Badagry to outline their expectations and commitments ahead of the 2026 fiscal year.
So, what are our expectations for 2026 in the Lagos State budget, our representatives, Williams asked.
His comments have since sparked conversations within the Badagry community, as residents await clarity on projects and interventions that will directly impact their lives in the coming year.
