The Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria ATPN South West has joined the people of Badagry in mourning the passing of the Akran of Badagry Kingdom His Royal Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi the First describing the late monarch as a pillar of culture tradition and tourism development.
ATPN South West expressed its condolences to the Royal Family the Badagry Traditional Council and the entire kingdom in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the National Vice President of the association Hon Apata Samson Nunayon.
Hon Nunayon a prominent son of Badagry said the transition of the revered monarch marked the end of an era noting that the late Akran was not only a custodian of tradition but a steady force whose leadership ensured the preservation of Badagry’s rich historical identity.
He said the reign of the monarch was defined by wisdom dignity and a deep commitment to sustaining the cultural heritage of the ancient town adding that his contributions went beyond the palace and had lasting impact on tourism growth in the kingdom.
According to the statement the late Akran played a key role in protecting some of Badagry’s most treasured historical assets including the first church and the first storey building while also promoting the intangible cultural heritage of the Ogu people such as traditional rhythms customs and practices that define the community.
ATPN South West noted that these efforts helped position Badagry as a destination of historical and cultural significance both locally and internationally.
Hon Nunayon prayed for divine strength for the royal family the people of Badagry and stakeholders in the tourism sector urging them to draw comfort from the enduring legacy of the late monarch.
He added that the life and works of Kabiyesi would continue to serve as a guiding light as Badagry advances on its path toward becoming a leading tourism destination in Nigeria.
