Rumoured Bandit Threat: Badagry Tightens Security with Joint Police, NSCDC, Zangbeto, OPC and Others

Security agencies in Badagry on Wednesday embarked on a broad multi-agency patrol across coastal and border communities to reassure residents of their safety as the festive season approaches and to calm growing rumours of a possible bandit threat.

The patrol was initiated and led by the Divisional Police Officer of Badagry, CSP Sesan Agosile, who immediately activated the area’s full security network after unverified social media posts suggested a potential attack.

CSP Agosile pulled together operatives from the Nigeria Police, the military, NSCDC, LNSC, the Nigeria Forest Security Service, OPC, hunters, Zangbeto representatives led by the Zangas, Agbekoya groups, vigilante teams, neighborhood watch units, and other local security formations for the joint operation.

The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, also threw his weight behind the move. He was represented throughout the patrol by the council’s Chief Security Adviser, CSP Johnson Adagba (Rtd.), who joined the security teams on the field.

The combined forces moved through several coastal and riverine communities across Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA, and Badagry West LCDA, checking vulnerable points, speaking with residents, and monitoring activities around major border routes.

During the exercise, CSP Agosile urged residents to stay calm but alert, and to quickly report any suspicious movement to security agencies or community leaders. He asked the public to ignore unverified online messages that could cause panic and reminded everyone that the ban on fireworks, knockouts, street carnivals, and gatherings linked to cult groups is still in place to ensure a peaceful festive period.

CSP Agosile added that the patrol is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among security agencies and maintain peace and order across Badagry as end-of-year activities pick up.
