Rep Whingan Empowers 100 Badagry Constituents with Fish Farming Training, ₦150,000 Grants

Member representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, has empowered 100 constituents with practical fish farming training and a ₦150,000 start up grant each to support their entry into agribusiness.

The empowerment programme took place on Monday at Vajane Hotel, Ibereko, in Olorunda Local Council Development Area, and was organised in partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research and Charoite Stone Limited.

The initiative is part of Hon Whingan’s ongoing efforts to promote self reliance, job creation and sustainable livelihoods among youths, women and able bodied residents across Badagry Federal Constituency.

During the programme, participants received hands on training in aquaculture, covering fish breeding, feeding techniques, pond management and basic business sustainability. At the end of the training, each beneficiary was presented with a ₦150,000 start up grant to enable immediate commencement of their fish farming ventures.

Beneficiaries were selected from the three councils that make up the constituency, Badagry Local Government, Olorunda LCDA and Badagry West LCDA, to ensure fairness and inclusive participation.

Speaking at the event, Chief Sedegla Pot Balogun, who represented Hon Whingan, urged beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity by applying the knowledge acquired and managing the funds responsibly. He said the programme reflects the lawmaker’s commitment to grassroots development and economic empowerment.

Also speaking, Prince Wale Adesina, a member of the Sesi Whingan Campaign Team, praised the intervention, describing it as timely in view of the current economic situation in the country. He noted that initiatives like the fish farming programme would help cushion the effects of ongoing economic adjustments on ordinary Nigerians.

Prince Adesina further called on residents of Badagry to continue supporting Hon Whingan as he prepares for a second term, pointing to his achievements at the National Assembly, including completed constituency projects and others at different stages of execution. According to him, a second term would strengthen the lawmaker’s capacity to attract more development to the constituency.

The beneficiaries, in their remarks, expressed gratitude to Hon Whingan for the empowerment, describing it as timely and life changing. They pledged to use the funds for the intended purpose and to become productive contributors within their communities.

The programme once again highlights Hon Sesi Whingan’s focus on people centred governance, youth empowerment and sustainable economic growth in Badagry Federal Constituency.
