The Lagos State University community has been thrown into outrage after a disturbing prank video surfaced online showing young men dressed like armed extremists storming the campus and frightening unsuspecting students.

The clip, posted on 5 December by Datreez Entertainment TV and titled Bandits Prank on Lasuites, captured the actors wearing turbans and desert-style outfits as they moved around the campus. A behind-the-scenes video later showed them putting on the costumes and driving toward a group of students while a member of the team filmed the scene.

Not long after the backlash began, the video disappeared from the group’s page. In its place came an apology released on Sunday. The creators claimed that those featured in the prank had given consent and admitted that the stunt caused unnecessary fear. They apologised to the university community for the panic stirred by the content.

But the fallout has already begun. Some student content creators say the incident has led to tighter restrictions on filming within the school. According to them, security officers have started seizing phones and tripods from students attempting to record videos on campus.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Mrs Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, the institution firmly dissociated itself from the video, calling it unacceptable. LASU said it does not support any form of content that portrays terrorism or threatens the peace and safety of its environment. Students were urged to immediately report any unfamiliar or suspicious movement to campus security.
