Fire Razes Six Rooms in Ibadan Residence

At least six rooms in a private residential building were destroyed by fire in the early hours of Tuesday at Akinsoji Zone, Ogbere Moradeyo, Oremeji area of Ibadan.

Confirming the incident, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Maroof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call at about 5:55 a.m. from a resident, Mr. Kayode. A team of firefighters led by CFS Adesina Olusoji was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“On arrival, we found a six-room residential building already engulfed in flames. Our officers quickly moved in and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses,” Akinwande explained.

The blaze was eventually put out through the combined efforts of the Oyo State Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.

While no lives were lost, the building itself suffered significant damage. Investigations later revealed that the fire was caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette butt, which ignited nearby flammable materials.

Akinwande advised residents to take fire safety seriously by keeping extinguishers in their homes to help tackle emergencies before they escalate.
