The Delta State Police Command says its intensified crackdown on crime has led to the arrest of more than 80 suspects in the past month.
Speaking at a press briefing in Asaba on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, described the feat as proof that the command’s intelligence-driven operations are yielding results.
Olufemi assured residents that the state is becoming increasingly unsafe for criminals, adding that the police will not relent in their pursuit of lawbreakers.
“In recent times, Delta has become very hot for criminals. We will continue to go after them until they are arrested and made to face justice,” he said.
According to him, several armed robbery operations across Asaba, Ughelli, Ogwashi-Uku, and nearby communities led to the arrests. Weapons such as pump-action rifles, pistols, double-barreled guns, and 31 other firearms were seized, along with 86 rounds of ammunition.
The police also recovered stolen vehicles, motorcycles, laptops, mobile phones, and other electronics. One suspect, a 35-year-old man from Edo State, was caught trying to sell stolen cars for ₦2 million each, while in Ughelli, officers arrested a 52-year-old woman described as a major drug dealer. A large stock of illicit drugs—including 355 bottles of codeine, tramadol, and liquid cannabis—was seized during the raid.
Olufemi further revealed that the command busted a syndicate that hypnotised victims and emptied their bank accounts. Two Toyota Camrys, 16 suspected stolen iPhones, and fraud-related evidence worth over ₦23.5 million were recovered.
Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, the police announced a separate breakthrough, with nine suspects arrested and more than 4,200 rounds of ammunition recovered during operations across 13 local government areas. Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, said the seizure followed sustained intelligence efforts, stressing the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and keeping communities safe.
