Police in Enugu have set the record straight on last week’s tragic accident along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, confirming that the truck involved did not belong to Dangote Industries Limited, as widely speculated, but to another company — Visco Investment Global Limited.
According to the state police command, two separate crashes occurred on September 3 at the Ozalla/4-Corner axis, leading to the deaths of 10 people and leaving 10 others hospitalised.
The first crash happened around 9 a.m. and involved a cement-laden Howo truck branded with Visco Investment Global, a Toyota Corolla, a Foton bus, and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus. The impact caused the truck head and the Corolla to burst into flames, killing five passengers in the car and one in the mini bus.
Later that day, at about 3 p.m., another cement truck — this time a Sino truck belonging to Global Investment — collided with a tricycle, killing all four occupants.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the incidents as “avoidable,” directing a full investigation while urging motorists to remain vigilant, especially during the Ember Months when accidents are more frequent.
Following public speculation, Dangote Industries also released a statement stressing that the truck in question was not part of its fleet. The company revealed that it was already working with the authorities to find out why the truck was carrying its logo without permission.
Dangote further condemned what it called the “growing spread of misinformation” linking it to tragedies without evidence, pledging stricter action against unauthorised use of its brand identity while promising full cooperation with investigators.
