The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has voiced concern about the increasing trend of politicians and their supporters jumping into early campaigns, despite the fact that it clearly violates existing laws.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of The Electoral Institute (TEI), Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during a stakeholders’ roundtable on the challenges of premature political campaigns.
He noted that many of these early campaign activities are now being disguised as “thank you gestures” or “philanthropy,” often promoted through billboards, social media, and even physical events.
