2027: I’m Done With Lagos Assembly – Obasa

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has declared that his journey in the state legislature is drawing to a close, saying he is now setting his sights on higher political responsibilities ahead of 2027.

Obasa, who has held sway as Speaker since 2015, made the remark during a live interview on Television Continental, where he opened up about his political future and the direction of his career.

According to him, though every politician has personal ambitions, final decisions must always align with the collective interest of the party.

“Every politician has ambitions, but you get to a stage where you cannot determine what comes next. If you believe in the party structure, you understand that it’s about consultation, consensus, and leadership’s direction,” Obasa said.

Pressed further on whether he intends to contest for another term in the Assembly, the Agege-born lawmaker dismissed the idea, hinting that he is done with that chapter of his political life.

“Not really,” he said with a smile, adding that he would rather consider options such as the Senate or the governorship, depending on the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His declaration comes at a time when the political space in Lagos is heating up with speculations over who could succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose second term ends in 2027.

Obasa, who recently survived a political storm that briefly saw him removed and reinstated as Speaker, remains one of the most influential figures in Lagos politics and a strong voice within the APC.

With his latest position, all eyes will now be on how the ruling party shapes its strategy and where Obasa eventually fits in the unfolding political equation.
