2027 Badagry Governorship Agitation: Activist Urges Ambode, Other Divisions to Step Aside for Equity, Calls for Unity

The push for a Badagry-born governor in Lagos State has gathered fresh momentum as a social activist, Prince Mawutin Ofade, openly appealed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—popularly referred to as the “Political Oracle”—to give Badagry Division a fair shot at the governorship in 2027.

Ofade, in a viral Facebook post on Thursday, specifically urged former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and other aspirants from outside the division to step aside in the spirit of equity and fairness. According to him, this is the only way to make the long-held “Badagry Governorship Dream” a reality.

In his strongly worded post, Ofade raised concerns over the growing speculation of Ambode’s political comeback, questioning how such a development could affect Badagry’s long-awaited ambition.

“Former Governor ‘Ambode Again 2027’ is spreading like wildfire, especially in Badagry Division,” he wrote. “Why so loud here? Is it because our agitation has been neglected by some of our own politicians and stakeholders? Or is it because our movement is not united and inclusive enough?”

He warned that disunity within Badagry—where some are clamoring for governorship while others pursue deputy governor, senator, or House of Assembly positions—could ultimately weaken their collective cause.

“Our division of interest may destroy our chances. The only way forward is to present a united front, speak with one voice, and engage all stakeholders, including the Political Oracle, to support a Badagry candidate,” he added.

The activist further cautioned against self-centeredness and neglect, saying these could “consume the dream” of Badagry producing a governor. He noted that despite past appeals, many stakeholders ignored the call for unity and consultation.

“The Badagry Division dream lies in the hands of God and the Oracle. But if we refuse to listen, refuse to make sacrifices, or fail to read the Oracle’s message correctly, we may lose it,” Ofade declared.

While acknowledging internal setbacks, he praised Prince Samuel Mawuyon Ajose (SMA), a businessman and APC stalwart from Badagry, who has boldly declared his interest in the 2027 governorship race.

Ajose, who recently launched a foundation in Badagry focused on philanthropy and empowerment, dismissed claims that the division lacks the human and financial capacity to compete for Lagos’ top seat.

“There are hundreds of sons and daughters of Badagry who have all it takes—both in competence and resources—to lead Lagos,” Ajose said at the foundation’s launch. He also condemned the long-standing marginalization of Badagry among Lagos’ five IBILE divisions, stressing that it was time to push harder for inclusion.

With Ofade’s viral call and Ajose’s formal declaration, the agitation for a Badagry governor is clearly taking a new dimension. But whether this movement can overcome internal divisions and win the blessing of the “Oracle” remains the biggest question ahead of 2027.
