Ojo Labour Party Chairman Removed After Vote of No Confidence
The embattled Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, Hon. Oluwanifemi Elegbede, is on the brink of removal after stakeholders and members of the party passed a vote of no confidence in his leadership, following a damning petition that accused him of serial misconduct.

In the strongly-worded petition addressed to the party’s state leadership, Elegbede was accused of gross misconduct, financial impropriety, abuse of office, extortion, and persistent violations of the Labour Party constitution. Stakeholders alleged that his actions had undermined the party’s integrity, stunted its growth, and betrayed the confidence reposed in him.

They recalled that shortly after the 2023 general elections, Elegbede was accused of accepting large sums of money from rival political parties, including the APC and YPP, a move they claimed almost sabotaged LP’s chances in Ojo. According to them, rather than show remorse, the chairman allegedly continued in questionable practices into 2025, exhibiting what they described as “inept leadership, arrogance, and administrative recklessness.”

Among the allegations raised were the diversion of funds from party membership card sales into personal accounts, imposition of illegal levies on ward executives, failure to account for funds raised for party activities, and exploitation of candidates during the last local government elections through excessive financial demands. He was also accused of refusing to convene executive meetings, hoarding critical party documents, arbitrarily dismissing executives without due process, and running a “dictatorial system” within the party.

The petitioners further alleged that Elegbede often boasted about his ties to top state leaders, claiming immunity from disciplinary action. In their resolution, the stakeholders declared they had lost confidence in his leadership and demanded his immediate resignation. They called for the Vice Chairman, Mr. Taiwo Muritia Azeez, to step in on an interim basis pending an independent investigation into the allegations.

“The Labour Party in Ojo cannot continue under the self-serving and oppressive leadership of Hon. Nifemi Elegbede,” the petition read. “His continued stay in office has brought the party into disrepute, eroded members’ trust, and compromised our chances as a strong opposition.”

Following the petition, apex leaders of the Labour Party in Ojo passed a formal vote of no confidence in Elegbede — a development confirmed in a video obtained by Badagry Today.

Reacting, Hon. Abudu Olumuyiwa Akogun, LP’s chairmanship candidate in the last Lagos local government elections, hailed the development as a victory for accountability and democracy within the party.

“This is a warning to all that nobody can take Ojo for granted,” Akogun said. “There’s an expiry date to every excess, and now I know Ojo has leaders. I doff my hat to you all for this path of freedom, liberation, and positive emancipation.”

With the petition and vote of no confidence gaining momentum, Hon. Elegbede now faces mounting pressure that could reshape the political leadership of the Labour Party in Ojo. Stakeholders say the move signals a fresh resolve to rebuild the party on transparency, discipline, and collective leadership.
