There was tension in Bigwa village, Mbayenge, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, after suspected bandits launched an attack in the early hours of Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

According to residents, the assailants stormed the community around 2 a.m., shooting sporadically and attempting to wreak havoc. But the village youths, determined not to be overpowered, rose in defense of their community.

In the fierce confrontation that followed, the youths managed to overpower and capture one of the suspected bandits, while others fled the scene, some with severe injuries. Unfortunately, a few of the brave defenders also sustained injuries in the clash.

The captured suspect was later handed over to security operatives for proper investigation.

Villagers have since hailed the courage of the youths, describing their action as heroic, while urging government authorities to beef up security in the area to prevent future attacks.
