The stage is set for another vibrant celebration of cinema as the Badagry International Film Festival (BIFIF2025) officially opens its call for film submissions. With the theme "Roots and Routes," the festival invites filmmakers from across Africa and around the world to submit their work for the upcoming third edition.
Scheduled to take place in the historic coastal town of Badagry, the festival shines a spotlight on stories that explore African heritage, identity, migration, and shared global experiences. It is a cultural gathering that brings together storytellers, creatives, and audiences to reflect on where we come from—and where we are going.
BIFIF2025 welcomes entries in the following categories:
-
African-themed films: Narrative features, documentaries, and short films that delve into African culture, history, and everyday life.
-
Non-African themed stories: Narrative features, documentaries, and shorts that present powerful stories from other parts of the world.
Filmmakers can submit their entries via FilmFreeway, where detailed submission guidelines and deadlines are available.
“This festival is more than just a screening platform,” organisers say. “It’s a space to celebrate the power of film to unite, inspire, and educate across cultures.”
Now in its third year, BIFIF has quickly become a key cultural event, drawing attention to Badagry’s deep historical roots and its growing relevance in Africa’s creative renaissance.
Filmmakers, cinephiles, and culture lovers are encouraged to follow festival updates on Instagram via @bififestival and to join the conversation using #BIFIF2025 and #BIFIF3.
Whether you're an emerging voice or an established filmmaker, BIFIF2025 offers a global platform to share your story — right from the roots to the routes that shape our world.
Visit Badagry. Experience the story.
