The ongoing crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has taken a controversial twist, sparking outrage among party loyalists.
Tensions reached boiling point after Durodola Suliat Oluwatoyin, a name previously absent from the party’s nomination and screening records, emerged as the APC’s councillorship candidate for Ward A. Despite reportedly neither purchasing the nomination form nor undergoing the mandatory screening, Durodola has officially received the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) nomination form—clearing her path to the polls.
Party insiders say the LASIEC form was handed to her by Omobolanle Obe, the Apex Leader of the LCDA, who is now facing mounting criticism and accusations of favoritism. The move has infuriated several aspirants who say they strictly followed the rules, including paying over ₦1 million for forms and attending all required screening sessions.
“This is nothing short of a slap in the face,” one disgruntled aspirant told Lagos Reporters. “We followed the process, spent our time and money, only for someone who didn’t even show up to be gifted the ticket. It’s a betrayal of everything we stand for.”
The backlash has spilled onto the streets. Aggrieved APC members and community stakeholders from Ward A staged a protest, marching with placards and chanting slogans that condemned what they called a “blatant imposition.” Many are now calling on the party leadership to immediately reverse the decision.
“If this injustice isn’t corrected, we won’t support the APC—not in this ward, not in 2027, not anywhere,” one protester declared. “We demand fairness. We demand a candidate who earned their place, not someone picked in secret.”
The development has added fuel to the already smoldering fire of discontent surrounding the APC’s local government primaries across Lagos. Accusations of internal manipulation, imposition of candidates, and disregard for due process have cast a shadow over the party’s democratic credentials.
With the 2025 council elections drawing near and grassroots confidence visibly shaken, pressure is mounting on the APC’s state leadership to step in, restore order, and uphold the party’s principles—or risk losing loyal supporters in the long term.
